Has performed more than 2500 major spinal surgical operations in cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine whether by posterior approach or anterior-posterior combined.

External Activities

Since 2005 has been teaching techniques for Transforaminal lumbar approach (TLIF), Anterior lumbar and thoracic approaches (ALIF), Vertebral Osteotomies in hands-on session on cadavers. In 2006 in the Anatomy Lab of the “Universite’ Rene’ Descartes” of Paris (France) has been teaching surgical anatomy (anterior approach to the lumbar spine) in the G.I.S. (Italian Society for Spine Surgery) course for surgeons in training.

Has given many lectures about revision surgery for “failed back syndrome”, minimal invasive techniques such as video assisted anterior approaches to thoracic and lumbar spine, non fusion techniques (dynamic or hybrid stabilization) in national and international meetings.

In January 2009 he was “The first Prize Winner at the 13° International ARGOS (European Association of Research Groups for Spinal Osteosinthesis) Spine Symposium in Paris” for a paper on “Long distance anterior revision surgery after TDR. Minimal invasive technique”. He was invited in September 2009 and 2014 at JPSSSTSS (Japan Society for the study of Surgical Technique for Spine and Spinal nerves) for a special lecture about these techniques.

Current Interests

Deformities, revision surgeries, degenerative diseases of the spine, all spinal surgeries, especially in performing anterior approach to the spine and in the development of minimal invasive techniques, and in “non fusion” techniques (total disc replacement, endoscopic approach to the thoracic spine, dynamic stabilization).
